Turns out the old rubber belt had turned to goo and was slipping so bad it kept kinking the cassette, but after 20 minutes with a screwdriver and a replacement belt from a parts kit, it plays perfectly now, has anyone else had the motor shaft wear out too or was that just mine?
Used to just swap caps and call it done, but after last month's fix on a KV-27TS27, the flyback whine bled into the audio line, so now I run every set through a $15 isolation transformer before I even test it, has anyone else hit this ground loop trap?
Stopped by Al's TV Service in Long Beach last Tuesday to grab a flyback transformer for my 1985 Trinitron, and he had a working Sony reel-to-reel deck open on the bench, still running test tones. He said he gets one in every few months from estate sales and it takes him a full day just to recap the audio board. Anyone else ever troubleshoot a reel-to-reel that only hums on one channel?
