My 1984 Walkman ate 3 tapes before I tried the $2 belt swap

Turns out the old rubber belt had turned to goo and was slipping so bad it kept kinking the cassette, but after 20 minutes with a screwdriver and a replacement belt from a parts kit, it plays perfectly now, has anyone else had the motor shaft wear out too or was that just mine?
