The CRT repair shop under the 710 freeway still has a reel-to-reel bench

Stopped by Al's TV Service in Long Beach last Tuesday to grab a flyback transformer for my 1985 Trinitron, and he had a working Sony reel-to-reel deck open on the bench, still running test tones. He said he gets one in every few months from estate sales and it takes him a full day just to recap the audio board. Anyone else ever troubleshoot a reel-to-reel that only hums on one channel?
