Found out the original FedEx logo had a hidden arrow and I never saw it

I was watching a design documentary on YouTube and they pointed out the negative space between the 'E' and 'x' makes a perfect arrow. I've looked at that logo for years and completely missed it. Do you think subtle details like that are clever or just a distracting gimmick most people won't notice?
