Appreciation post: A mural in a Denver alley changed how I see color

I was walking to a client meeting last week and cut through an alley off Larimer Street, completely covered in a huge, layered mural. Seeing how the artist used maybe five colors total, but in different saturations and values to create such depth, stopped me in my tracks. Has anyone else had a simple piece of public art completely shift their approach to a palette?

Yeah, it's wild how often the best design lessons come from stuff we just walk past. Makes you wonder what else we're missing.

Exactly, @patcoleman. It's like we're blind to the good stuff in plain sight. I learned more about clear layouts from a well-organized hardware store aisle than any design book. Even a city bus route map is a masterclass in showing complex info simply. Makes me look at parking lot stripes or subway tiles totally different now.
