My first batch of sauerkraut grew a weird mold patch on day 5
I came home from work and saw this fuzzy white spot floating on top of my brine. Ended up scraping it off and tossing the top layer, but I'm still nervous the rest is going to taste off. Anyone else had luck saving a batch after mold shows up?

@martinez.karen said it right about the gym sock test. But what exactly did the mold smell like? If it was just a faint musty smell and nothing sour or rotten, you might be okay.

Day 5 mold is basically the sauerkraut gods testing your commitment to the cause. You'll be fine unless it smelled like a gym sock, then toss it and start over.
