Took a chance on a $5 thrift store burr grinder and it actually works

Last week I found this old Bodum burr grinder at a Goodwill in Austin for just 5 bucks. It was all crusty inside with old coffee oils and looked like someone had dropped it on concrete. I spent a Saturday afternoon taking it apart, scrubbing every piece with a toothbrush and some baking soda, then let it dry in the sun for a couple hours. Put it back together and to my surprise the motor still hums nice and quiet, and it grinds way more even than my old blade grinder ever did. The only catch is the plastic hopper has a crack so I have to pour beans in slow, but for 5 bucks I can't complain. Has anyone else rescued a beat up grinder from a thrift store and had it work out?

My buddy found a $3 Cuisinart grinder at Goodwill and that thing still runs perfect after two years.
