TIL my $8 goodwill popcorn air popper roasts better beans than my $90 drum setup
I read a comment on r/coffee saying popcorn poppers are toys and you need a real drum roaster to get anything drinkable, and I almost believed it until I tried it myself. I grabbed an old West Bend Poppery off a shelf in Portland for $8, did 4 oz batches, and pulled a City+ roast right at 6 minutes with way more even color than my drum ever gave me. The one catch is you have to stir constantly and watch for first crack or you scorch the batch in seconds. Anyone else running a popper setup, and how are you cooling your beans fast enough to stop the roast?
