The barista at my local shop told me my home grinder was "spitting dust" and that one comment made me rebuild my whole setup
I was chatting with a barista at the shop on 5th and Main and mentioned my pour overs were tasting muddy and flat no matter what I tried. She asked what grinder I used and when I told her, she said it was likely "spitting dust" into the brew because the burrs were worn and throwing a wide mix of particle sizes. I opened it up and she was right, the lower burr had a flat spot about the size of a pea. I swapped in a $35 replacement burr set, added a cheap sifter to knock out the fines, and the next cup actually tasted like the beans I paid for. Has anyone else had a grinder issue where the fix was way simpler than you expected?
