My French press carafe exploded after 2 weeks of use

So I picked up this cheap French press from a discount store for like 12 bucks. Used it every morning for two weeks straight with no issues. Then yesterday I poured hot water in and poof, the glass just shattered everywhere. Had coffee grounds and glass bits all over my kitchen floor. I ended up rigging a mason jar with the plunger and filter from the busted press. Has anyone else tried making a DIY French press with a mason jar? Works pretty good so far but I'm worried about heat cracking the jar too.

Dude that mason jar idea is genius, how long have you been using it? I totally feel your pain though, my first French press exploded after like a week too and I had glass and coffee all over my white cabinets. I just bought a stainless steel one after that, I was too scared to try anything else with glass again.
