I thought my $20 blade grinder was fine until a truck stop barista showed me her setup
Three days ago I was at a Pilot outside Flagstaff and the woman behind the counter saw me grinding beans with my little blade grinder in the parking lot, and she laughed and pulled out a hand grinder she got for cheap online. She poured some of my grounds into her palm and showed me all the big chunks mixed with powder, then ground the same beans her way and the pile looked way more even. I tried it at home the next morning and the cup tasted different, not fancy different, just smoother and less bitter at the end. Now I keep the blade grinder for backup and shake the basket to level the grounds before I brew. Has anyone else made the switch to a hand grinder after thinking it was just coffee snob stuff?
