Started using cold water only after my aunt roasted my dishwashing habits

My aunt visited last month and saw me scrubbing a greasy pan with hot water and Dawn. She goes "you're burning the suds off before they even touch the grime" and told me to switch to cold water for grease. I've tried it for 3 weeks now and honestly it does work better on oily stuff but now my hands feel way colder and more dried out after. Hot water seems to cut through stuck on food faster though even if it kills the bubbles. Anyone else gotten a random tip from a family member that totally changed your dish soap routine?

Has your aunt ever tried that cold water trick on a pan that's been sitting with baked-on cheese for two days? My buddy Steve swore by hot water until his mom told him to fill the pan with cold water and a drop of soap then let it soak for an hour. He said it peeled off like butter without any scrubbing, but his hands still got pruny from the soak.

Pruny hands are the price of not eating cheese off the pan floor.
