Just realized my neighbor in Tucson was judging my sink sponge, not my soap
We were chatting over the fence last week and she asked why I keep the sponge soaking in a little bowl of soapy water overnight. She mentioned her mom did the same thing back in the 80s and it cut the smell way down, which I never even thought about. I always blamed my soap for that sour rag smell but it was the sponge sitting wet in the sink all day. Now I'm wondering how many other little habits I picked up from my parents without knowing why. Does anyone else keep a sponge bowl or is that just a weird desert thing?

Read somewhere that microwaving a wet sponge for a minute kills most of the germs, which probably beats soaking it overnight.
