I thought lemon dish soap was ruining my hands, then I wore gloves for a week and changed my mind
For about two years I swore that lemon scented soap was the reason my hands cracked and peeled every winter. Last October I ran out of my usual stuff and grabbed whatever was on sale at the grocery store near my apartment in Boise, and my hands got worse, not better. So I finally did a little test: one week with the lemon soap and yellow gloves, one week with the fancy stuff and no gloves. The gloves week ended with zero cracks, and the fancy soap week had three split knuckles by day four. Turns out the soap was never the problem, it was me soaking my bare hands in hot water for 20 minutes every night. Now I keep a $3 pair of gloves under the sink and I barely think about soap brands at all. Has anyone else blamed a product when the real issue was how they were using it?
