I dropped $30 on a fancy lemon verbena dish soap and it smelled like furniture polish

I saw it at a little boutique in Portland last spring and figured hey, why not treat myself. Got it home, washed one plate, and the smell was so strong and fake I almost gagged. It left a weird film on my glasses too. I used it three times and then just threw it out. Has anyone else fallen for a pricey dish soap that turned out to be a total dud?

Wait have you tried that Mrs. Meyers stuff or the Method ones? I grabbed a bottle of method mandarin something on sale for like $4 and it actually smells really good not like fake chemicals. Plus it cuts through grease way better than that fancy boutique stuff I bought once.

Garage sales are actually the best place to find the old school Mrs. Meyers before they changed the formula. I grabbed three bottles of the original lavender for a dollar each last summer and they work so much better than the new stuff. @the_drew you're right about the Method mandarin too, that one surprised me. But what nobody talks about is how the scent fades super fast with the new Meyers compared to the old ones. I swear they watered it down or something around 2019. Keep an eye out at thrift stores for the older bottles with the plain labels, those are the real deal.
