Debate: Does the expensive brand really clean better or is it just marketing?

I read a study from a consumer lab that said cheap store brand soap cut grease just as well as the $6 bottle, but the expensive one had better scent staying power. I’ve been using the cheap stuff for a week and my dishes feel clean, but I miss the lemon smell. Anyone else find the price difference worth it for the fragrance alone?

I bought the store brand lavender dish soap once to save $3 and regretted it for a week because the scent faded before I was done rinsing. My mom SWEARS by Dawn and she gave me her extra bottle when she saw me frowning at my cheap suds. Now I mix a few drops of the expensive lemon soap with the cheap unscented one to stretch the fragrance without paying full price every time. That works way better for me because I still get that clean lemon smell on my plates but my wallet doesn't cry as much.

I started keeping a small bottle of the fancy lemon soap under my sink and just do a couple squirts into my regular refillable dispenser. The cheap brand still does all the scrubbing work, but now my whole kitchen smells like fresh citrus without me spending triple every month. That little trick saved me money and gave me back the scent I was missing.
