Appreciation post: the lady at the church rummage sale in Dayton who showed me the hot water trick
I was helping out at a rummage sale in Dayton about 3 years ago and this older lady running the kitchen table saw me fighting with a greasy pan using cold water and a tiny drop of soap. She took the pan from me and said "honey, hot water does half the work before the soap even shows up" and ran the tap until it was steaming before adding maybe a quarter teaspoon of soap. That pan went from gunky to clean in about 20 seconds and I have not filled a sink with cold water since. Funny how one small thing from a stranger sticks with you way longer than any bottle label ever did. What little tricks did you pick up from someone else's kitchen?
Ever notice how the old timers never measure soap? My grandma did the same thing with a dab of dish soap and scalding water, and I still do it that way today.
