Why does nobody talk about running torque specs on dry threads instead of oiled?

Switched to dry torque on main bearing caps after a CAT master tech told me I was adding 15% extra clamp force for 8 years, and now I'm curious how many of you actually check your thread condition before grabbing the torque wrench.

Wait, are you telling me I should have been checking my coffee cup torque after lunch this whole time? I spent a decade just sending it on head bolts with a prayer and some WD-40, never once questioned if my threads were clean or greasy. Honestly, I thought dry torque was just for lug nuts on a lifted bro-dozer, so props to that CAT guy for saving you from my kind of guessing.
