Warning: I stopped skipping fuel filter water checks.

Catching water early avoided expensive injector damage.

Did the water come from bad fuel or just normal condensation building up over time? Figuring out which one changes how you prevent it, and maybe who pays for a fix if it's a station's bad gas.

Ran into this with my boat motor last year. Wasn't condensation or bad fuel. Turned out the station's underground tank had a cracked gasket letting groundwater seep in after heavy rain. @scott.morgan you can actually test it. Pull a sample in a clear jar. Let it sit. If the water layer turns milky or has sediment the station's tank is compromised. Clear separation means it's probably condensation on your end. Had a buddy who did this and got his whole repair bill covered. Station didn't fight it once he had the jar proof.

My uncle's F-250 had the same scare last winter. He blamed the station, but his tank was half empty for months. That's a recipe for condensation, not bad gas. Most times it's just air in the tank getting cold and wet. You fix that by keeping the tank full, especially in damp weather. Chasing bad fuel might miss the real issue.
