The glow plugs on my 7.3 went out mid-winter in Michigan last month
I was heading out to a job site about 45 minutes from my shop, temps were sitting around 10 degrees. Truck cranked over real slow and just belched white smoke for a solid 30 seconds before it finally caught. I knew right then those old Beru plugs were probably toast. Got to the site, did the job, but on the way back she threw a code and ran rough as hell. Pulled the valve covers the next day and found three of the eight plugs had swollen up and two were completely broken off at the tip. Ended up spending an afternoon with a boroscope and a special extractor set fishing those bits out of the pre-chambers. Took way longer than I expected because one was really wedged in there. Has anyone else had luck using a heat gun on the head before trying to pull broken plugs on these old 7.3s?

Man I've been there. Nothing quite like spending an afternoon with a boroscope questioning every life choice that led to owning a 7.3.
