Swapped out a water pump on a 6.7 Cummins last week and the difference surprised me

I had a 2014 Ram 3500 come in with a weeping pump, threw a new OEM one on in about 4 hours. The old pump had 180k miles on it and the coolant was all crusty. Anybody else notice a solid temp drop after swapping one of these out?

Yeah man, "solid temp drop" is a bit strong, don't you think? I've done a few of these pumps on 6.7s and honestly, if the old one isn't leaking bad and the coolant is halfway clean, the temp gauge barely flinches. It's more about the peace of mind that it's not gonna leave you stranded than any real performance gain. Unless your old one was completely shot and the bearings were grinding, you're basically just trading a working part for a new one. The crusty coolant probably did more for your temps than the pump itself after you flushed it. So yeah, it helps, but calling it a "solid temp drop" feels like you're overselling a routine repair.

Read a tech article once that said the impeller design on the 6.7 pumps is actually pretty different between old and new. Supposedly the newer ones move more water at idle, which is where these trucks tend to run hot anyway.
