Stopped using starting fluid on every cold morning and my starter thanks me
For about 15 years I kept a can of starting fluid on the shelf and gave every stubborn diesel a quick sniff when temps dropped below 30. Last winter my own 7.3 quit on me in the driveway in Fargo and a buddy asked if I'd ever checked glow plug resistance before reaching for the can. I bought a $40 multimeter, tested all 8 plugs, and 3 were dead, so I swapped them and the truck started clean without any spray. Now I test glow plugs or grid heaters before I ever touch that can, and my starters last way longer. Anybody else have a go-to diagnostic step they wish they'd learned sooner?
