Showerthought: That 'minor' fuel leak on a Detroit 60 series last Tuesday turned into a $3,000 injector flush after it diluted the oil for a week.

The driver kept topping it off and running it, saying it was 'just a weep', but by the time it came to us in Boise, the crankcase was half diesel and we had to pull the whole rack.

Read a story once about a guy who did the same thing with a Cummins... kept adding oil instead of fixing a small fuel leak. Ended up needing a whole new engine because the diesel washed out all the bearing material. It's crazy how a tiny drip can turn into a major failure if you ignore it. That diluted oil doesn't lubricate anything, it just turns to sludge. Really makes you wonder what the repair bill would have been if they'd caught it right away. Probably just a couple o-rings.

Wait, doesn't diesel in the oil thin it out instead of making sludge?
