Shoutout to the old timer who made me question my injector habits

Was doing a PM on a Pete 379 last Tuesday over in Modesto and this retired dude, must've been 70, was just hanging around the shop waiting on a part. He watches me torque injectors and goes 'you know, back in my day we'd run a motor 20k miles before we'd even say injector.' I laughed it off but the more I thought, the more I realized half my fleet work is just replacing parts because a light came on, not because something actually failed. He didn't push it, just said 'diagnose the driver, not the truck.' That hit different because my last three comebacks were all stuff I could've caught by asking the guy how he drives it. Anyone else ever had an old-school guy drop a line that changed how you approach a job?

Man, that old timer nailed it. Asking about driving habits saves my butt every time.
