Old timer at the shop told me I was 'overthinking injectors' right to my face
Guy had 40 years in the trade, watched me bench-test a set of injectors for 45 minutes, then just walked over and said that before walking off. Has anyone else had a senior tech just shut down your troubleshooting without even looking at the numbers?

Forty years doesn't mean he never made a bad call. Bench testing injectors for 45 minutes seems long, but if you were checking spray pattern and leakage at multiple pulse widths that's totally normal. Plenty of old-school guys think you can just listen to an engine and know everything, but injectors can fail in weird ways that don't show up until you put them under a load. Bet he's the type who blames bad gas for everything and never pulls a fuel sample.

Buddy of mine had a similar issue with a diesel van, took him ages to find a bad injector that only acted up when the engine was hot. @riley_bell is right about weird failures, sometimes you gotta pull a sample and bench test to really know what's going on.
