I was doing a pan gasket on a 2006 Cummins ISX in Amarillo about 2 years ago, and my lead hand told me not to bother with the torque wrench on the pan bolts, just snug them up by feel. I did it his way against my gut, and the rear bolts wept oil within 400 miles. Pulled it apart, checked the spec, and it called for 18 ft-lbs, which is nothing, but it turns out hand tight on a 10mm head is all over the map. I torqued them in a spiral pattern the second time and it stayed dry for 30k miles. So what are you all doing on stamped steel pans, wrench or feel?
