Lesson learned: $450 on a 'rebuilt' injector pump from an online seller

Last fall I grabbed a supposedly rebuilt injector pump for my old Ford 7.3 off some eBay shop out of Ohio to save a few bucks over the local rebuilder. It ran okay for about 3 weeks, then started surging and dumping fuel into the crankcase, what a mess. Pulled it apart and the pump guy had just swapped the seals but left the worn throttle shaft, which cost me a weekend and another $600 in oil and labor. Anyone else had luck with those cheap internet rebuilds, or is it always stick with the local shop in your area?

Did they show you any proof it was actually rebuilt before you bought it?
