I finally figured out why my high-pressure oil pump was failing

Last month I was chasing a no-start on a 6.0L Powerstroke, and after 3 days of pulling my hair out I found the IPR screen was completely clogged with debris. Turns out the previous owner had been running cheap oil filters that were letting particles slip through. I swapped in a Motorcraft filter and cleaned the screen, and it fired right up. Has anyone else run into this with aftermarket filters on the 6.0?

Dude yes, I went through the exact same loop on mine! After chasing a hard start issue for a week, I found the IPR screen looking like it had been through a paper shredder. I ran a Fram filter for like two oil changes and it was enough to gunk everything up bad. Motorcraft filters are the only thing I'll touch now, it's honestly not even worth saving a few bucks. Cleaning that screen on a 6.0 is such a pain, I learned my lesson the hard way too.

I had the same problem on my 6.0 a couple years back. Swapped to a Wix filter and the truck ran fine for about 6 months before the IPR screen started acting up again. Went back to Motorcraft and never had another clog issue. Those cheap filters really let a lot of junk through, especially on these high pressure oil systems.
