Heard a guy at the parts counter say fuel additives are just snake oil

I was picking up oil filters this morning and some dude in line was going off about how injector cleaners and cetane boosters are a waste of money. He claimed he's run 400k miles on his Cummins with nothing but pump diesel and hasn't had a single injector issue. Made me think about the $60 a month I spend on that stuff. Has anyone actually seen a fuel system problem get fixed by an additive, or is it all just preventative?

Fancy snake oil" is honestly how I feel about half the stuff in my bathroom right now. I bought a $60 anti-aging cream last month that said it would "brighten" my skin, and all it did was make me break out in a weird rash. $480 a year is a lot though, maybe you can sell it on Facebook Marketplace to someone else who's also been tricked? Have you actually seen any differences since you started using it?
