Took me 3 weeks to figure out why my color clients kept getting brassy at the roots, and it was the last thing I checked

Roots going brassy is usually from the developers lifting too hot and fast, like 20 volume when you only needed 10. So if it was the last thing you checked, I'm guessing it wasn't the developer itself. What did it end up being?
