Talked to a nail tech at a convention last month and now I'm second guessing everything
I was at the Beauty Expo in Chicago and grabbed coffee with a nail tech who's been doing it 25 years. She told me she never uses monomer because she thinks the fumes are dangerous long term. She said 'I've seen too many friends get sick from breathing this stuff daily.' It hit me different because I've been using monomer for 6 years without thinking twice. Now I'm wondering if I should switch to gel or press ons or something. Has anyone else had a health scare from chemicals in the salon?

My sister's been a nail tech for 20 years and she never uses monomer either. She switched to a dip powder system about 8 years ago and says her lungs feel much better. I read an article in a trade magazine a while back that talked about how the chemicals in monomer can build up over time, even with good ventilation. She also mentioned that some of the cheaper monomer brands have higher levels of the harmful stuff. It makes me wonder if we all need to be more careful about what we're breathing in all day.
