Serious question, why does everyone use so much product now?

I remember when a dime sized amount of mousse was plenty for a whole head of hair, but lately I see stylists slathering on three different creams and a serum before even picking up a blow dryer. Last Tuesday I watched someone use a whole pump of thickening spray on fine hair and it just turned into a sticky mess. Am I the only one who thinks less is more with these new formulas?

My friend once let a stylist talk him into using four different products on his already oily hair before a wedding. He ended up with a texture like wet newspaper by the reception and spent half the night tilting his head away from candles. He still talks about it whenever someone mentions sea salt spray.

i mean... it's hair product at a wedding, not a hostage situation. pretty sure he could've just wiped some off with a napkin and moved on.
