Had a client bring in a photo of a poodle for a haircut reference

I mean, it was a literal dog, not a poodle cut style. She was totally serious and wanted the exact same fluff and topknot. I had to explain the difference between human and canine hair texture for a solid ten minutes. Has anyone else gotten a request this wild?

Once tried to match a client's hair to their cat's fur, which went about as well as you'd imagine.

Honestly, matching to pet fur is a classic trap. The lighting in someone's home versus the salon is never the same, for starters. You're better off using a photo of the pet in natural daylight and holding swatches next to the screen. Even then, managing expectations is key, because that cat hair is going to look totally different on a human head.
