A client in her 70s told me she missed her natural gray after a full color service
She said it in my chair last Tuesday, right after I finished the blowout. It made me realize how often we push a 'fix' without asking what someone actually wants to feel like. Anyone else have a client who changed your approach to a consultation?

My client Sarah, 68, came in for a full color to cover her gray. I started asking what she liked about her natural hair before it went white. She said she missed the silver streaks... so we did a glaze instead of full coverage to blend them back in. She left happier than she had in years. Now I always ask "what did you love about your hair before" at every consult.

My friend had a client who always asked for the same warm blonde. One day she mentioned her daughter loved her natural ash tones as a kid. My friend did a shadow root with a cooler toner to bring some of that back, and the client cried happy tears. It wasn't about the color, it was about feeling like herself again. That story stuck with me.
