A bride's grandma made me rethink my chairside chit-chat

Last Saturday I was doing a bridal trial in Austin and the grandma was sitting in the corner watching. She said, "You talk less while you work than any stylist we've had." I always thought I was being professional, just focusing on the sectioning and product. But she meant it as a compliment, and it got me thinking that maybe clients actually want quiet time, not constant small talk. Has anyone else gotten feedback like that, or do you find chatter helps build trust with new clients?
