Watched my neighbor's lawn go from brown to green in 2 weeks

My neighbor Dave had this patchy, dead lawn for like 3 years. Last month he finally got sick of it and aerated the whole thing himself with a manual tool from Lowe's, then threw down some fescue seed and watered it every morning for 15 minutes. In just 14 days, that grass popped up thick and dark green, totally different yard. Has anyone else tried aerating a small lawn themselves and seen a big change?

My cousin tried this exact thing on her front yard last spring and had the same result. It's funny how we expect big changes to need big money or fancy equipment, but a lot of times it's just doing the basic stuff the right way. Like how my buddy fixed his squeaky garage door for five bucks with some white lithium grease instead of calling a repair guy. We get so used to bandaids and quick fixes we forget the simple deeper work is what actually lasts. Aeration is boring manual labor but it lets the seed actually reach the dirt and do its thing. Just goes to show, a little elbow grease upfront saves you a ton of hassle later.

Used to think aeration was overhyped lawn voodoo or just for rich people with lawn services. Tried it on my patchy back yard last spring with a manual core aerator from Amazon, was sore for two days, but the grass filled in way better than any bag of seed I'd just tossed on top. Watering after makes a huge difference too, the seed actually stays put and doesn't just wash away. My yard is still not perfect but it's ten times greener than it was before.
