A simple rule change cut down our neighborhood drama by half
About three years ago, our HOA board meetings were a mess. Every month, people would show up just to complain about tiny things, like a trash can left out for an extra day or a slightly overgrown hedge. The real issues, like fixing the community pool fence, never got solved because we were all so tired from the arguing. Last month, our new board president, Karen, pushed through a new rule: you can only bring up a problem if you also suggest a possible fix. It sounded silly, but we tried it. At the first meeting under the new rule, instead of ten people just venting, we had three people with actual ideas. We voted on a plan for the fence that night. Has anyone else tried a rule like this to keep community talks productive?
