Tried neighborly advice on my tomato plants and got a total flop
My neighbor Bob told me to water my tomato plants every single day without fail. He said that's how his grandma did it and her tomatoes won blue ribbons at the county fair. So for 3 weeks straight I gave them a good soak each morning. By week 4 the leaves started turning yellow and the few tomatoes that grew were small and cracked. Turns out I was drowning the roots because my soil doesn't drain like his does. I learned you can't just copy someone's method without checking your own setup first. Has anyone else had a gardening tip backfire because the soil or climate was different?

Gotta check your drainage before following anyone's watering routine. Soil type changes everything with plants. Bob meant well but his grandma's method only works if your dirt matches his.

Had a buddy kill his whole collection of succulents because he followed some influencer's watering schedule. Turns out his pots had no drainage holes and he was using straight up garden soil from his yard. Meanwhile I'm over here mixing perlite into everything like my life depends on it. Different soil, different results. Simple as that.
