TIL a neighbor's advice about a block party changed how I see my street.

Two summers ago, I was new on the block and Mrs. Garcia from down the street saw me just putting a flyer for a cookout in mailboxes. She stopped me and said, 'Honey, you gotta knock. A paper in a box is trash, but a face at the door is a friend.' I did what she said and almost everyone showed up. Do you have a small piece of advice that actually got a whole group of people to connect?

A paper in a box is trash, but a face at the door is a friend" is so true. I used to just send a group text for things, thinking it was easier for everyone. Then a friend told me to call one person and actually talk, then ask them to call the next. It sounds slow, but that phone chain got ten people to a last-minute game night when my texts were ignored. The personal ask made all the difference.

You got ten people to show up for a last-minute game night? That's a miracle right there. My group would need a month's notice and a written invitation.
