Spent 2 hours trying to fix a toilet that just needed the handle jiggled harder

My neighbor's kid came over and fixed it in 30 seconds after I'd already replaced the flapper, the fill valve, and taken three trips to Home Depot, has anyone else wasted a whole afternoon on something that simple?

Did you just use a hammer on it before the kid showed up?

Yeah, I used to think hammers were enough too. Changed my mind real fast.
