Showerthought: I stopped giving advice at block meetings and just asked what people already tried
Our neighborhood block group used to run an hour every month with folks talking over each other about parking and noise, and nothing ever got fixed. About 4 months ago I started opening with one question: what have you already tried on this? Turns out 3 households had each called the city about the same broken streetlight and got nowhere alone, so we filed one joint request with all their ticket numbers and it was repaired in 9 days. Same thing with the dumpster situation, one guy had photos going back a year that nobody knew about. The meetings now run 25 minutes and we actually leave with tasks. Has anyone else tried flipping the format to ask first instead of propose first, and did it stick or fizzle after a couple months?

4 of us pooled our streetlight tickets too, fixed in a week.
