Serious question, is a big welcome event really better than just meeting people one on one?

Our neighborhood group spent $500 on a block party last month, but I met more actual neighbors just walking my dog for a week. The big event felt forced and people left fast. Anyone else find small, simple talks work better for building a real community?

Ever notice how forced group stuff feels like a work meeting? You get more real talk waiting in line for coffee than in some planned mixer. Big events check a box, but actual connections happen in the small, boring moments.
