Pro tip: I hit 50 posts in our neighborhood watch group and realized I was giving terrible advice
I kept telling people to call the non-emergency line for every little thing, but a cop friend in Phoenix finally told me that just clogs the system for actual issues. Has anyone else had to totally rethink their go-to community advice?

Yeah, that "clogs the system" line really hits home. It feels like so much common advice is just stuff we repeat without checking if it still works. Like telling everyone to put baking soda on a grease fire, which I heard is actually a bad move now. We get these little rules stuck in our heads from who knows where, and they become automatic. Makes you wonder what else we're all getting wrong just because it sounds right.

Right, the "little rules stuck in our heads" thing. I see it all the time with home stuff, like people insisting you need to wash dishes with scalding hot water to kill germs. Most of the cleaning happens from the soap and scrubbing, not the water temp, but that idea is just baked in.
