Last Wednesday was the worst day I've had in months at my community garden plot
I got to the plot around 7am and found that someone had pulled up half my tomato plants overnight. Seven of them were just lying there in the dirt with roots exposed. I spent two hours trying to replant them and water them back to life, but I think only three will make it. Then my neighbor came over and said she saw a kid from down the street messing around there the night before. I talked to the garden coordinator and she said they'll put up a sign about respecting other people's plots. Has anyone else dealt with random damage to their garden space like this?

Oh man that is so frustrating, I feel your pain. Last year someone came through and just pulled the tags off all my pepper plants so I had no idea what was what for like three weeks until they finally fruited. It took forever to figure out which were the hot ones and which were the bell peppers.

That neighbor should have said something to the kid or called the parents instead of just telling you after the fact. Signs don't do anything, kids ignore them and so do adults. The coordinator should be checking the lot more often or at least getting security lights put in if people are going to mess with stuff. You put time and money into those plants, and a sign is basically saying "we don't really care but we'll pretend to." Feels like the garden needs actual rules about consequences for vandalism, not just a piece of posterboard. I'd be pushing for cameras or a community watch schedule if I were you.
