Is it really that hard to put your shopping cart back? I keep seeing people just leave them in parking spots.

I was at the grocery store last Tuesday and watched three different people just walk away from their carts in the middle of the lot. One was right next to the corral, maybe 20 feet away. I don't get if it's laziness or they just don't think it matters. The store has to hire someone to round them up, so that cost gets passed down to us, right? Has anyone else noticed this getting worse lately, or am I just seeing the same few people?

The other day at the Kroger on 3rd street I timed it and the closest corral was maybe 15 feet from one guy who just ditched his cart. I started doing that hand-off thing and it actually works pretty well, saves everyone a few steps. Also if the corral is full people sometimes give up and leave them nearby so I try to push carts in tighter to make room. Another trick is grabbing a loose cart from the lot on your way in, that way you're already fixing one problem before you even shop. It's not gonna fix everything but it helps keep the lot a little more sane.

Have you tried just handing your cart to someone who's walking in, so they don't have to grab one from the corral? It's a small thing but cuts down on the strays.
