Had to choose between a neighborhood coffee shop and a big chain for my study spot, picked the local one

I live in Portland and used to just bounce between Starbucks and my apartment for getting work done. A buddy told me to try this place called Moonrise on 28th. First day there the barista remembered my order, second day I knew half the regulars names. Been 8 months now and I get way more done there than I ever did at Starbucks. The coffee is like $1 more but I don't mind. Anyone else switch to a local spot and notice a big difference in how productive you are?

Man that's awesome. I did the exact same thing like a year ago and it changed everything for me. My local place is called Hideout and the owner knows I take my coffee with oat milk and a little honey, doesn't even ask anymore. I walk in and he just nods and starts making it. The vibe is way more chill than Starbucks, no one rushing you out or playing loud music. I legit get 2x the work done there. Its cool how a small change like that can make you actually look forward to studying lol.

Okay hold on. You guys are acting like finding a coffee shop with oat milk is some life changing epiphany. It's a cup of coffee, not a spiritual awakening lol. I get it, it's nice to have a spot where they know your order and don't blast music. But "twice the work done" because the barista nods at you? Come on. That sounds more like you just wanted an excuse to post about your cool local cafe than anything actually profound. I've been to places like that and yeah the vibe is better than a Panera but it's not like your grades are gonna skyrocket because the walls have exposed brick. It's coffee. Not a magic potion.
