Had to choose between a charcoal kettle and a pellet smoker for my deck

I got a $200 bonus from work last month and couldn't decide between a Weber kettle grill and a Traeger pellet smoker for my tiny apartment deck. I went with the kettle because my neighbor said they're easier to clean and I found one on Craigslist for $50. Now I'm wondering if I should have saved up for the smoker since ribs took 6 hours of babysitting the charcoal vents - anyone else regret their first grill choice?

Bought a cheap offset smoker once. Set my neighbor's hedge on fire trying to get the temp up.

I started using a charcoal chimney to get my offset going and it made a huge difference. Way less drama than fighting with lighter fluid and a match for an hour.
