A neighbor yelled at me for trimming my hedge at the wrong angle last spring
She said I was cutting branches too close to the trunk and it would kill the shrub in 2 years. I changed to leaving an inch of stem and the hedge actually filled in thicker by fall. Anyone else get random gardening advice from strangers that turned out to be right?

My friend Karen from down the street once told me I was watering my tomato plants too much, said the leaves would turn yellow and get spotty. I laughed it off because it had been a dry July and I thought more water was better. Sure enough, three weeks later half the leaves were yellow with brown spots and I had to pull two plants. She was right, I was drowning them.

Yeah @the_nina, I did the same thing with my peppers last year, drowned them thinking I was helping.
