Watched two guys argue for 20 minutes at my LCS about whether the 90s foil covers are trash or treasure

The older guy was saying they're worthless gimmicks while the younger collector was defending them as nostalgic art pieces, and I honestly can't decide who had the better point since I've got a stack of those shiny holographic X-Men books in my own longbox.

Man, I gotta tell you about my buddy Dave. He found a shoebox full of those foil X-Men #1 covers in his mom's attic from when he was a kid. Took em to a shop downtown thinking he'd make a quick hundred bucks. The owner barely looked at em and said they're basically worth the cardboard they're printed on now because everyone and their brother held onto those things. But then Dave's cousin, who runs a small booth at flea markets, sold four of em to a guy who was decked out in full 90s cosplay for like fifty bucks each. So I guess it really depends on who's buying and how bad they want that shiny nostalgia trip. I just keep mine in a box because they look cool on the shelf, even if they're not paying my rent.

@oscarmurray your buddy's cousin absolutely played that right. The shop owner was technically correct about the market value but that totally misses the point. Those foil covers are pure nostalgia bait for the right collector who remembers buying them off the rack. I've got a buddy who swears by selling at cons and flea markets specifically for that reason, regular shops just don't get it. They might not pay the bills but there's something about that shiny cover that just hits different when you flip through them on a lazy sunday.
