That time my comic book shop dude completely lost his cool on a customer

I was at Cosmic Comics on Broad Street last Friday picking up my pull list, and this guy comes in asking about variant covers. The owner, Mike, just snapped at him, yelling that variants are ruining the hobby and he should just read the story. I stood there frozen with my stack, not sure if I should leave my books on the counter or just bail. Has anyone else seen a shop employee totally lose it on a customer like that?

Honestly that's rough. I've seen shop workers get salty before but never full on screaming. There's this one guy at my local store who literally just stares at people if they ask for something he doesn't like, but Mike sounds like he needs a break or something. Variant covers are whatever, some people collect them, some don't, not worth yelling over. Hope that customer didn't feel too bad, and hope you were able to grab your books without getting caught in the crossfire.

I used to think guys like Mike were just having a bad day, but this story kind of changed my mind.
